American Thanksgiving Day

In 1621, the Plymouth Colony celebrated the first American Thanksgiving to commemorate the harvest after a disastrous winter.

In 1789, George Washington was the first president to declare the holiday.

In 1863 during the civil war, Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November Thanksgiving Day.

Franklin D. Roosevelt wanted to lengthen Christmas shopping season and proclaimed thanksgiving the third Thursday in November.  However, in 1941 congress decreed that Thanksgiving Day should fall on the fourth Thursday of November.  As we celebrate thanksgiving November 25, 2010, let us also thank our veterans and most importantly the fighting men and women defending our freedom on the front-line far from home.   Wherever you are, have a gluttonous Thanksgiving Day…

Celebrate 234 years of USA

Courtesy of Travlinman43's photostream

Citizens, residents and visitors, let us celebrate two hundred thirty four years of America’s independence.  Though the country is young when compared to European dynasties, the founders of the new republic recognized the evidence that their creator created all men equal.  Also, remember our fighting men and women on Independence Day.  Many come home from wars mutilated and some in body bags. Their lives changed immeasurably, others gone forever.  They sacrificed everything for our freedom.  Join friends and family Independence Day 4th of July for a joyful time at parades, picnics, fireworks or the beach to relax.

10 million, 20 million, whatever the number is, many undocumented immigrants live in America.  Are hospitals emergency departments obligated to treat anyone who is in the country illegally?

The 2010 Census – Citizen or not – Be Counted

What Are Your Reasons for Second-guessing and Delaying Filling-out the 2010 census form?

  • You do not have to be a US citizen; all residents of the USA should complete the form.
  • As a resident, you use various services in your community so be counted with  other residents and a greater portion of over $400 billion federal funds comes to your community.
  • According to the Brookings Institution, the average dollar amount per resident is $1469.00 each year.
  • The first census in 1760, counted everyone in the USA.  Just image how daunting a task with the technology of the time.
  • Undocumented immigrants, please fill out the form.  All your personal information remains confidential.
  • See the interactive sample census form for more information.
  • Get your coffee and pen.  Sit in your favorite chair then start checking the appropriate boxes on the 2010 census form.
  • It is our civic duty to mark the appropriate boxes on the form and return it in the postage paid envelope.
  • What is the deadline?  April 1 is National Census Day.  April 19, census officials begin listing households that did not return the questionnaire.  Beginning May, census workers will visit homes that did not return the census form to get required information.  Because of increasing migration to the U.S. and other factors, returning your census form before May 1 is important for an accurate census.
